Ο Γουίλσον δεν "τρέχει" στη Σουηδία


Ο Μάθιου Γουίλσον τραυματίστηκε στον αστράγαλο και δεν θα λάβει μέρος στο Ράλι Σουηδίας την ερχόμενη εβδομάδα.

Ο Χένινγκ Σόλμπεργκ θα είναι ο μοναδικός εκπρόσωπος της ομάδας Go Fast Energy στο ράλι Σουηδίας την ερχόμενη εβδομάδα.

Ο δεύτερος οδηγός της ομάδας, ο Μάθιου Γουίλσον δεν θα λάβει μέρος στο δεύτερο αγώνα της χρονιάς, καθώς τραυματίστηκε στον αστράγαλο κατά τη διάρκεια προπόνησης στο σπίτι του το Σάββατο (4/2).

Ο 25χρονος γιος του ιδιοκτήτη της M-Sport, Μάλκολμ Γουίλσον δήλωσε σχετικά "φαίνεται ότι έσπασα τον αριστερό αστράγαλο μου. Κρίμα γιατί ανυπομονούσα να αγωνιστώ στη Σουηδία. Ήμασταν καλά προετοιμασμένοι για αυτόν τον αγώνα εν συγκρίσει με το Μόντε Κάρλο και ανυπομονούσα για ένα καλό αποτέλεσμα".

Έτσι διακόπτεται το σερί του Γουίλσον που δεν είχε χάσει αγώνα του παγκοσμίου πρωταθλήματος από το 2006 και το Μόντε Κάρλο.

Ετοιμάζεται αγωνιστικό Peugeot 208



Το Peugeot 208 θα παρουσιαστεί επίσημα στο σαλόνι της Γενεύης τον Μάρτιο με τις πωλήσεις του να ξεκινούν στη συνέχεια.

Τώρα όμως έχουμε πληροφορίες αλλά και φωτογραφίες ότι η Peugeot Sport ετοιμάζει την αγωνιστική του εκδοχή.



Το αγωνιστικό Peugeot 208 σε πρώτη φάση θα είναι προδιαγραφών R2 και θα προσφέρει 185ps στα 1.6lt (ατμόσφαιρα) καθώς και σειριακό κιβώτιο ταχυτήτων. Οι πρώτες δοκιμές αναμένονται να ξεκινήσουν άμεσα με τα πρώτα αυτοκίνητα να είναι έτοιμα για πωλήσεις και αγώνες μέσα στο 2012.

Παράλληλα όμως εξελίσσεται και το Peugeot 208 προδιαγραφών R4T που ουσιαστικά θα αντικαταστήσει τα S2000, άρα και το Peugeot 207 S2000.

Φήμες όμως κάνουν λόγω και για εξέλιξη αγωνιστικού Peugeot 208 προδιαγραφών WRC με στόχο την επάνοδο στις ειδικές διαδρομές του παγκοσμίου πρωταθλήματος ράλι από το 2014.



Άλλωστε η Citroen έχει συμβόλαιο με τον Loeb μέχρι και το τέλος του 2013, οπότε μία αποχώρηση στο τέλος εκείνης της χρονιάς είναι ένα λογικό σενάριο. Ίδωμεν.

Chris Atkinson in World Rally Championship return in Mexico with Monster Ford


Former Subaru star Chris Atkinson will contest next month's Rally Mexico in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC, driving for the Monster World Rally Team.

Atkinson has been close to concluding a deal to partner Ken Block for some time and is delighted to have reached agreement for the third round of the World Rally Championship on 8-11 March 8-11.

The Australian, who drove a factory Subaru for four years, has not competed at the highest level of the sport since finishing fifth in a one-off outing in a Citroen C4 WRC on Rally Ireland in 2009. The Queenslander tackled the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship with Proton last year, winning three rallies and narrowly missing out on the title to his team-mate Alister McRae.

"I'm stoked to be back in the WRC and teaming up with Ken and the Monster World Rally Team for Rally Mexico," said Atkinson. "I've finished second in Mexico in 2008 and this year I'll be competing in the same spec car that won the last round in Sweden so I'm really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with the best gear and guys around me."

Chris Atkinson says he is more excited about his return to the World Rally Championship on next month's Rally Mexico than he was about making his factory team debut in the sport seven years ago.

Atkinson hasn’t competed in the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia since he drove a Citroen C4 WRC on Rally Ireland in 2009, but he says a test in the Fiesta RS WRC in Cumbria last week was just the confidence boost he needed.

“The car was awesome,” said Atkinson. “It’s the first time I’ve ever driven a Ford rally car and it’s not hard to see how the car won in Sweden; it’s far-out how cool this thing is. And I’m stoked to be in the Monster World Rally Team with Ken as well. I remember when I first drove for Subaru, but I’m more excited about this now - this is a huge opportunity for me to get back in the main game at the peak of my career.”

“I drove the car for a day and a half in Cumbria and didn’t really change much. I just wanted seat time to feel the way the car worked and we killed it. The test was fantastic; it’s sick being back in a World Rally Car! And especially on Rally Mexico, an event which I like and have a pretty good record. I was second to [Sebastien] Loeb last time out, I wouldn’t mind that result next month!”

Technology timing back for 2012


The Stage One Technology timing and tracking system, which has been used on the World Rally Championship since 2001, will remain in place for the rest of the season.

The FIA confirmed the news last night (Monday).

In a statement, the FIA said: “The FIA is pleased to confirm it has signed an agreement with Stage 1 Technology for the provision of timing and tracking for the remainder of the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship season.

“This service provides important safety tracking of the cars during the entire event - both on and off the stages - and timing to a thousandth of a second, required for the all-new Qualifying Stage.”

The Stage 1 Technology system powers the stage results that can be seen in real time on wrc.com. The results can also be seen live on Nokia’s WRC application ensuring fans across the world don’t miss a moment of the action.

Stage One Technology managing director Simon de Banke said: “I would like to pay tribute to the speed and ability with which everyone in the FIA has worked to make this agreement happen. We’re looking forward to putting the clocks on another stunning year in the most exciting sport on the planet.”

The next round of the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia takes the contenders to Leon in Mexico from 8-11 March, for the first full gravel event of the season.
