Kubica receives Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy
Grand prix winner Robert Kubica – a huge fan of Colin McRae’s when he was younger – has become the latest winner of the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy.
The Pole, making his FIA European Rally Championship debut on Rally Islas Canarias El Corté Ingles, had been leading the event until his accident on Saturday morning. Nonetheless, his attacking performance was judged to be absolutely in the spirit of the 1995 world rally chanmpion, and Kubica became the delighted recipient of the trophy in Gran Canaria.
“It’s a great pleasure for me to win this award,” said Kubica. “Of course Colin was a great driver and I have been supporting him when I was young. Normally winners are only at the finish but this trophy gives us a bit of satisfaction after this hard end and Colin is always in our hearts.”
