ERC Rally di Roma Capitale Qualifying Stage cancelledThe Qualifying Stage for Rally di Roma Capitale, round seven of the FIA European Rally Championship, was cancelled for safety reasons.
Using a 3.48-kilometre route in Torre Cajetani, the stage had been due to get underway at 16h30 local time but did not go ahead following an inspection amid competitor and spectator safety concerns.
Michèle Mouton, the FIA Safety Delegate, carried out three detailed inspections. She said: “The level of safety was not in place. For the FIA, safety is priority number one.”
With the results of the Qualifying Stage due to determine the order in which drivers select their starting positions, this will now be decided according to championship order with Kajetan Kajetanowicz, the double ERC champion, picking first at a ceremony in Rome from 13h30 tomorrow followed by Bruno Magalhães and Alexey Lukyanuk.
The Esposizione Universale Romana (EUR) area to the south of Rome’s city centre will host the opening stage, ACI Roma Arena, from 18h30 local time on Friday 15 September with the drivers tackling the 1.80-kilometre test in reverse order.
